1. ISO 13849-1 Performance Levels (PL)
Functional safety reduces the risk of operator injury from machinery failure. ISO 13849-1 defines five Performance Levels (PL a to PL e), representing the reliability of safety-related control circuits.
PL e represents the highest risk reduction level (typically required for robotic cells and heavy presses), with probability of dangerous failure per hour below 1 in 10 million.
